Understanding Drug Monographs
A drug monograph is a comprehensive information page for a single drug. MedSafe monographs are curated specifically for Nigerian clinical practice and verified by registered pharmacists.
Monograph Sections
Each drug monograph includes the following sections:
- Overview: Generic name, drug class, ATC code, and brief description
- Mechanism of Action: How the drug works pharmacologically
- Indications: Approved clinical uses
- Dosing: Adult, paediatric, and special population dosing with renal/hepatic adjustments
- Contraindications: When the drug should not be used
- Side Effects: Categorised by frequency (common, uncommon, rare)
- Drug Interactions: Known interactions with severity ratings
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Safety categories and clinical guidance
- Nigerian Brands: Available brands with NAFDAC numbers and pricing
- Storage: Storage conditions and stability information
Verification Status
Look for the verification badge on each monograph. Verified monographs have been reviewed by a registered Nigerian pharmacist for accuracy and local relevance.
